Intro
The Dawn Run is a unique charity event held on the mystic Hill of Tara, Co. Meath on the weekend of the summer solstice. Runners and walkers of all abilities and levels of fitness participate in the fun event over a 4km cross country circuit of Tara. What makes the event unique is that the action commences at 4am, this adds to the sense of achievement and craic for all present. When the exercise is out of the way everyone can relax over a cup of tea and a dawn BBQ!
Organisers
The event is organised by Andrew Reilly and James Gibbons with the help of their friends and families. This year there is extra special involvement from Shay Sheridan who holds the beneficiary of the run, Crumlin Children’s Hospital, very close to his heart.
History
This year is the third annual Dawn Run and promises to be bigger and better than ever.
In 2007 the inaugural Dawn Run took place in wet and windy conditions, but all who took part thoroughly enjoyed the event and committed to return the next year. All funds raised were donated to the Neo-Natal Intensive care unit for Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
The 2008 Dawn Run was held on the summer solstice at 4am. Over 70 people took part and were treated to a fantastic sunrise which added to the atmosphere on the morning. The proceeds of the event were for the Niall Mellon Township Trust, as Andrew Reilly was travelling to Capetown in November 2008 as part of the building Blitz.
On the day
Everyone who is taking part in the event should meet at the entrance to the Hill of Tara at 4am on Saturday 20th of June. Once there everyone will make their way to the start line and once its bright enough the race will start. At the finish line everyone will be invited to refreshments and a BBQ breakfast.
